More about the release

A community-funded book by Nergiz De Baere

This is a book to redefine power. For ~6,000 years, humanity has been living under patriarchy, a system that we have been told is natural and inevitable. This system glorifies domination and oppressive power, but it has ultimately brought humanity to the precipice of social and ecological disaster.

Through intimate storytelling and sharp cultural critique, Matriarchy diagnoses the root of a global problem and invites you to imagine a completely different society. It is a call to collectively build a future rooted in love, reciprocity, and transformative healing.

This book is being written in the fire - literally and spiritually. In the wake of wildfire displacement, betrayal, and the quiet rebellion of breaking from a patriarchal family, I found language not just to survive, but to build something sacred.

I’m not waiting for a publisher to give me permission. I’m self-publishing this because I need this book to exist now. And I believe others do too.

What the book explores:

  • Why patriarchy was never inevitable, and how we’ve been conditioned to believe it is
  • What matriarchal societies (past and present) can teach us
  • How power can look, feel, and operate beyond domination
  • Why matriarchy is ripe to be reclaimed now

This is a community-funded release. Every contribution supports not just the book, but the ongoing work of creating and mothering in a time of collapse and awakening.

If you’ve resonated with my writing, if you believe we need new models of power and culture, and if you feel the call to live differently, I’d love for you to support this book and be part of its beginning.

At its heart, this book is about remembering that patriarchy was not always here. That we once lived differently, and that we can again.
